Alison Garrigan

Hi! I’m Ali and I joined AfSL in January as the Community Support Worker for the West Gorton Energy Academy Project.

I’ve lived in since 2005 and have been involved in environmental campaigning and activism since then, doing everything from student steering groups at university and community campaigns around airport expansion to taking direct action on the fossil fuel industry. I believe that we’re at a really crucial tipping point with regards to climate change and environmental sustainability and making the changes we need to see has to come from within communities as much as from political leaders. I’m really excited by having the opportunity to work with AfSL to generate some of this change.

For the past 5 years I’ve mostly been working in social housing doing advice and advocacy work, so the Energy Academy project is a great opportunity for me to unite these skills with my passion for working towards environmental sustainability and grassroots change.

I’ve got an unquenchable love of the outdoors so outside of working and campaigning you’re most likely to find me riding my bike, climbing mountains or learning to sea kayak!

I’m looking forwards to meeting more of the AfSL network over the next few months and if anyone has any questions about the project then you can contact me on [email protected]
