I am leading the Natural Recovery gardening project, which is based at Syrian House, a residential care home for adults with mental health needs. We have been awarded the Ecominds Grant from the Big Lottery Fund to develop an art based Sensory Garden. The garden will include an organic vegetable plot, different flowers to stimulate all senses and eco-friendly pieces of art created during regular art workshops. The project aims to promote independence, rehabilitation and recovery between mental health service users whilst reducing social exclusion, caring for the environment and enhancing quality of life. Short clip featuring Carolina introducing the project: It's an interesting opportunity to learn about gardening, develop your teamwork skills, help others in your community and receive advice on how to live more sustainably. Why not get come along and get involved? Follow the links the bottom of the page to find out more.
Carolina's coordinator congratulating her on being chosen as AfSL Volunteer of the Month: "Carolina has been volunteering in Ashton-on-Mersey since November. She decided to become an LPM in January and has been incredibly productive ever since. Carolina and her team have secured £17,000 of lottery funding to create a sensory garden and deliver a series of art therapy workshops at Syrian House over the next 12 months. Carolina's success has also been recently celebrated at the UK Marks & Spencer Employee Volunteer Awards. She beat off stiff competition from other employees to be crowned Best volunteer, and also winning an additional £1,000 of funding for Natural Recovery. Carolina's hard work and dedication to Natural Recovery are a real inspiration and we congratulate her on winning AfSL's Volunteer of the Month." |
