CDX is organising a regional event to discuss the report, commissioned
by the Department for Communities and Local Government, which assesses
the strengths and weaknesses of community development work and
recommends a range of actions to ensure it plays a more powerful role in
present-day society.

SATURDAY 20th OCTOBER 2007 is Standby Saturday,
a nationwide overnight switch-off of non-essential electrical appliances
with the aim of significantly reducing the UK’s carbon emissions.
The Standby Saturday campaign is not just about one night. We all need to get into the habit of switching off appliances properly every night, instead of leaving them on standby. This is a simple but important step to stop unnecessary wastage and reduce the carbon emissions produced from fossil fuel-generated electricity.

Open Spaces: Protection, Preservation and Participation. Workshops planned include campaigning to protect open spaces, working with local authorities to manage them and protecting informal open spaces. There will be information on the Open Spaces Assessment and a chance to have your say on the Local Development Framework (LDF) consultation.

Discussion around how to campaign for the protection of open spaces including playing field campaign toolkits.

Aimed at Community Leaders and other professionals working with ethnic
minority and disadvantaged young people to try out first hand some of
the activites of the Youth Ranger Programme and to meet some of the
young people that have already been involved. Youth ranger skills and
events include navigation and orienteering, survival skills and
conservation skills.
