The War on Waste Old Trafford group are having an exhibition on the environmental impacts of plastic bags.
On display would be the life cycle of plastic bags from the manufacturers to disposal which sadly is to the immediate environment. out from Marc Lupson from the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts about
their new Big Lottery funding scheme which has £50 million to give away.

Withington LPMs Owen Polley and Jen Howell headed into Withington on Saturday 23rd February to promote the upcoming Fairtrade Fortnight (25th Feb - 9th March 2008). Armed with a banana costume and a tray of chocolate samples, they gave out freebies and leaflets to passers by to show just how tasty fairtrade can be.

In October 2007 Black Gold, the powerful film about coffee made by Nick and Marc Francis, was shown at the Real Food Fair at The Whitworth Art Gallery.
Black Gold uncomfortably contrasts the plight of Ethiopian coffee farmers with the 'Starbucks' lifestyle of westerners at the height of the coffee crisis, when world coffee prices were at a 30 year low. While we drank our cappuccinos, many of them starved.

The University of Manchester has recently held its re-freshers fair of student societies. This event however is not just for students. It is open to everyone with free entry and will feature stalls from a range of local campaign groups, featuring radical literature, bike maintenance workshop 12-1pm, refreshments, films and a free shop.
So come along if you are curious about what goes on in the city campaign-wise off campus. Or if you are already involved in a group then come along to meet others. You are invited to bring second hand items to give to the free shop.

Celebrate the Fairtrade Fortnight by bringing a minimum of three items of clothing to the swap shop.
The Swap Shop is a simple way of reusing old clothes. It's a collaboration between Action for Sustainable Living, Manchester Friends of the Earth and the Make Trade Fair Society at Manchester University.
DID YOU KNOW that it's great if you pass on your clothes to charity shops, but that you can do even more by actually using second-hand clothes. An issue for British charity shops is that only 10-20 per cent of their clothes are actually resold in the UK.
