The Voluntary Sector Forum is the Mersey Basin Campaign’s annual event
for volunteers and waterway enthusiasts in the Northwest, providing a
chance to hear from leading figures in the region and network with other
volunteers and professionals. This year’s keynote speaker will be Tony
Juniper, executive director of Friends of the Earth. Friends of the
Earth is the world’s largest grassroots environmental organisation with
70 branches worldwide, including 200 groups and more than 100,000
supporters in Britain.

Pride in NeighbOURhood is an umbrella campaign incorporating a number of smaller initiatives promoting information around the waste management principle of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" as well as effective waste disposal and the discouragement of littering, flytipping, dog fouling to name a few areas of community interest.
Action for Sustainable Living would be working a number of local agencies to organise this community wide campaign.
On this day, we urge local residents to come out in their thousands and take part in whatever way they are able.

Sust Swap Shop returns on the 14th April. The collaboration between Action for Sustainable Living, Manchester Friends of the Earth and the Make Trade Fair Society at Manchester University has been running regularly since last October with each event gaining in popularity.

The idea is easy: bring clean, good quality clothes that you no longer want and exchange them for other peoples' items.

Manchester's Critical Commute happens on the last Friday of every month.

The purpose of Critical Commute is:

  • to make cycling visible to drivers and demonstrate that it's a viable way to get around;
  • if you haven't cycled for a while, it's a chance to enjoy safety in numbers and learn from others who have more experience;
  • to have fun.

It is entirely law abiding and does not attempt to stop or slow down traffic.

Urban Gardening explores what some people argue is Britain’s finest contribution to the visual arts and certainly the nations most absorbing pastime. The impact of climate change and issues of sustainability will run through the exhibition, tackling the effects of urban sprawl on the ecology of our cities. From the neglected back alley to the high rise tower block, the exhibition will show how green fingers and green thinking can help transform city spaces into urban oases.
