On Saturday 15th August Old Trafford Amateur Gardeners' Society is holding an Open Day at Seymour Grove Allotments. As part of National Allotment Week, the Open Day will celebrate seasonal food and highlight the benefits of growing fresh fruit and vegetables.
Between 12 - 4pm, local people are invited to visit the allotment site. Seasonal produce freshly picked from the site will be on sale as well as plants. People will be able to look around the site and see the 100+ allotment plots. Plotholders have been busy making scarecrows and there will be a trail for visitors to find them. We will be having a ‘Children’s Choice’ scarecrow – where Children will vote for their favourite scarecrow. There will also be henna hand painting and Asian vegetarian food prepared from produce grown on the Community plot available for sale.We will be holding two question and answer sessions about growing food. – come and ask any questions and we’ll do our best to answer them. These sessions will run at 13.30 and 1430." Our Open Days are growing in popularity.
August is a great time to come and visit as the allotment gardens are packed with produce. We will be here to welcome you what ever the weather, so we hope lots of people come along on Saturday to celebrate a time when UK grown food is at its best.” said Debbie Ellen one of the Open Day organisers.There will also be refreshments and home made cream teas & cakes available in our Pavilion.
