Ali Thomas was the Volunteer of the Month for December. Ali volunteered with AfSL as both a Local Project Manager in Chorlton for six months and as a Press and Media Intern. She single handedly organised the very successful Chorlton Sustainable Christmas Campaign in a tiny space of time - well done Ali! Ali spearheaded Chorlton's Sustainable Christmas Campaign to inspire local people to avoid the usual pitfalls of the festive season such as mass consumerism, over-production and the grosse waste of food, energy and natural resources, and to instead embrace the 'true' Christmas spirit of community cohesion. The campaign was delivered through information leaflets and workshops to promote a low-carbon, ethical and environmentally sustainable Christmas that is less stressful and low-cost, but still great fun! "I have had an interest in environmental issues since I was knee high, but over the last couple of years have become more and more aware of how the tiny adjustments we as individuals can make in our everyday lives can add up to make a BIG difference, especially when we work together!I believe that change can happen in a 'bottom-up' format with these seemingly small actions filtering up to affect government and corporate policy, and ultimately improving the way we live our lives. |
