Hi, I'm a local project manager for the Benchill & Sharston area in Wythenshawe. I'm quite new to the role but already it has enabled me to meet with some great people from the area and I am looking forward to bringing them together and learning about how we can all make a move towards living in a more sustainable way. My main passion is being outdoors so for my main AfSL project I am will be working at the Addy Playground on Woodhouse Lane turning an unused space into an amazing Eco- Centre and community wildlife garden which will enable local people to grow their own food and show how we can all learn to live in a more sustainable, eco-friendly manner. We will be including a wildflower meadow to encourage beasties galore and we'll have wormies, compost heaps, water butts, wildlife houses amongst other exciting things. To run along side this project I'd like to beable to run education workshops so residents of all ages can come along and learn about all things green and hopefully to understand just how easy that can be and how we can all begin to make a difference on an individual and personal level. If you would like to get involved in this exciting project then please drop me a line. The plans for the layout are currently being drawn up so if you have any ideas, please get in touch. This July I finally plucked up the courage to get out of the office and go back to school and am currently studying for a Diploma in Environmental Conservation with The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. All my studying is 'hands on' and I spend 2 days a week at the LadyBower Reserve in the Peak District doing all sorts of conservation projects including fencing, path laying and general habitat maintenance. Being outdoors so much and surrounded by nature really brings home to me just what we have to lose and makes me realise how important speading the sustainable living message really is but how much fun it can be as well. I hope you will join us. I look forward to hearing from you... |
