I was an LPM in the Timperley / Broadheath area. I wanted to get involved as an LPM as I am really passionate about environmental issued and wanted to do something within my local community. I worked with another LPM in Sale setting up a community grow-your-own scheme at Syrian House. I also set-up a swap shop in my local area. Unfortunately due to starting a new job I have now had to give up my role as an LPM but I am still volunteering with AfSL. I think AfSL is a great organisation which is always really positive and supportive of any projects you want to set-up in your local community. I really enjoyed my time as an LPM, I found it challenging but also hugely rewarding and it built-up my confidence. I think it is a really exciting role for anyone to take on, you are provided with all the support and skills/training you need to set-up to run a project in your local community. It showed me that anyone can start a project and that local communities are very interested to get involved. Anyone thinking about getting involved should try it and if you are unsure try supporting a local project first before setting up your own. All the other LPM's have lots of experience and are always willing to provide support and advice. For me it helped me to get out and meet people within my local community, engage with them and gave me a stronger sense of belonging. I really enjoyed my time and I hope more people will try being and LPM with AfSL. |
