'I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas' Campaign

Every Christmas the UK produces 3 million tonnes of festive waste! On top of that, the average ingredients that make up a Christmas dinner will travel a combined distance of 49,000 miles before they even reach our plates! These days Christmas seems to exhaust rather than uplift us and the emphasis, more often than not, is on consumption. This is not only bad for the planet as it puts a huge strain on its natural resources, but with many families feeling the financial squeeze this Christmas, cutbacks will have to be made. The 'I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas' Campaign aims to promote a low-carbon, local and environmentally sustainable Christmas in Chorlton. The project is being delivered through free information, workshops and activites. We aim to show people how to do more by spending less and rekindle the community spirit of the season that seems to have been lost through our consumer habits. Watch out for our free information booklet, available in the library and in various independent shops in Chorlton. In addition we are running a unique Sustainable Christmas Dinner cooking workshop, for the baragin price of just £5! To book a place e-mail ali.thomas@afsl.org.uk. The whole family will love our FREE outdoor Christmas treasure hunt on Chorlton Ee's. Solve clues to win prizes! Sunday 20th December - simply turn up at the entrance to the Ees between 12 and 3.30 to take part. Wishing you a very merry Green Christmas!
