AfSL is happy to be involved with an excitingproject in the Urmston/Stretford area. We are working in partnership withTrafford Council to help convert a disused piece of land at the end of Leagateon the Stretford/Urmston border back into allotments.Having secured just under £5k of funding, weare almost ready to start clearing the site and getting the site ready forSpring 2011, as soon as our water supply is connected.The site backs on to the Mersey valley and isSurrounded by a little brook and there is plenty of wildlife in the area.The site has been disused for 15 years, but was once originallyallotments, that stopped being used because of the lack of water. Community payback scheme have beenworking to clear the site. Ideasfor the future include; separate individual allotments, community allotmentarea, apiary, wild area, orchard and possibly even chickens or pigs!
