I started with AfSL as a volunteer, first of all as a Community Volunteer on an allotment, then as a Schools Volunteer helping deliver the AFSS program, then as a Local Project Manager creating and leading a community group. I now work for AfSL full time as Assistant Volunteer Coordinator. My work involves all aspects of coordinating volunteers from recruitment, induction and supervision, to planning volunteer involvement in events and helping plan, develop and conduct volunteer training. I still do a lot of volunteering outside my work time. I am on the committee of The Friends of Fallowfield Loop, where I'm leading the development of a biodiversity strategy aimed toward developing the potential of this 8 mile long 'linear park' as a wildlife corridor. I am working with a group who have taken up caring for Kenworthy Wood Orchard, and am developing a particular interest in community orchards. I am part of an urban gardening group called Eat Your Streets. And I am also hoping to get engaged with developments in Alexandra Park through the Friends of Alexandra Park. Outside of my current job I have also helped coordinate volunteers at the Chorlton Big Green Festival, and the Envirolution festival. |
