The next Volunteer Social will be Wednesday 16th February 5 - 7 pm Nexus Arts Cafe. A hot cuppa on the charity for all volunteers. AfSL's Bees, is going to perform a few tunes and sing a few songs - check him out on http://www.myspace.com/beemonk
Please feel free to invite along anyone interested in finding out more about getting involved in sustainability themed community projects.

Volunteer of the Month - Matt Rowe Matt has been a tireless volunteer, achieving an amazing amount in the six months, not only developing his own projects but helping other groups and volunteers with theirs. "He's really committed to making a positive difference. He's very much a creative thinker, and really good at building teams and working with other people to solve problems. Policy and Communications Volunteer The Policy and Communications volunteer will research upcoming changes to governmental policy (in the volunteering sector and environmental sector) on a local and national scale that are likely to effect the charity. You will produce short, clear updates, and attend the charity’s operations meeting once a month to provide team members a monthly briefing. Your role may include attending talks and conferences to inform your research. Go here to apply. |

Press and Media Intern The Press and Media Intern is responsible for the promotion of Action for Sustainable Living to local and national journalists and media outlets. You will get Action for Sustainable Living into the news by writing press releases and articles, and by networking with journalists and media outlets. Go here to apply |

Newsletter Writer The Newsletter Writer creates Action for Sustainable Living’s monthly newsletter. You will be responsible for researching, writing, publishing stories and sending out the newsletter online. You must be able to carry out this role from home at times. You will need access to the internet and a computer. Role will include: Researching stories. Writing and publishing articles using Mailchimp. Sourcing photos and images for the newsletter. Becoming familiar with sustainability issues at least in so far as they relate to your role. Get to know Action for Sustainable Living in its many forms. Go here to apply. |

Proof Reader The Proof Reader will check the spelling, grammar and wording of Action for Sustainable Living documents, including newsletters, press releases, case studies and funding applications. You must be able to carry out this role from home at times. You will need access to the internet and a computer. Go here to apply. |

Volunteer Speed-Matching Event Volunteers will be needed at this valentines-themed recruitment event to help chat to students about whether volunteering with AfSL is the best match for them. We will be the only environmental charity there, so we can expect a lot of interest! Lunch will be provided. You can read more about the event here. Chorlton Big Green Festival Chorlton’s Big Green Festival 2011 needs you! The mission is to promote environmental awareness in a fun family setting with workshops, stalls and loads of entertainment. If you want to gain some experience, meet new people and get involved in your community in a friendly atmosphere - then why not join in! There are a huge variety of roles available to suit all. Volunteers must be available to help out for 3 hours between 8am and 11pm on Saturday 16th April 2011, and should attend the briefing prior to the festival. Artists Needed to Design Cookbook Cover A great project to develop a community cookbook promoting locally-sourced dishes from Didsbury residents, community groups, and local businesses is now nearing it's final stages - it just needs a great cover! If you fancy the chance of being a published designer (with full credit), please send us your cover entry by Friday 4 March. Green & Environmental Fair This will be a free event for members of the local community to come and learn more about the following areas: Green Issues, Environmental Issues, Waste & Recycling, Renewable Energy, Sustainability through Science, Arts & Crafts. Rob Wix from SCIntillate, will be giving talks on sustainability. The show demonstrates the science behind Reducing Reusing and Recycling, investigated using practical demonstrations and audience volunteers - with eye-opening results! Natural Recovery Garden volunteers are needed every Wednesday 2-4pm. Through February sessions will involve, preparing and marking the plan for the fantastic new Sensory Garden, and starting to put in features such as raised beds. Volunteers are also needed to help support Art Sessions with the residents of Syrian House, every Friday 10am-12pm. These will involve creative garden design and collage.
