AfSL relies on volunteers to function; they play an essential role in all of our projects and core work. They offer a huge diversity of skills and experience that all extend AfSL’s capacity to support local people to live more sustainable lives.
You may choose to volunteer for one of the following reasons.
- Students – to gain work experience and develop professional skills
- Between jobs – to fill in a couple of months before the new job starts
- Retirement – to make good use of years of expertise
- Special interest/skill – to offer as a valuable contribution to AfSL’s work
- Social interests - to meet people who are like-minded and care about sustainability
- Spare time – to share a few hours each week by getting involved in something different and rewarding
Whatever your personal motive is we welcome your support and aim to make the relationship one of mutual benefit.

It is my responsibility to support all of our fantastic, dynamic and energetic volunteers. It's important to AfSL that our volunteers have a positive and inspiring experience whilst working with us.
Having cycled from one end of Britain to the other I see myself as a bit of an ambassador for cycling. It's cheap, clean and a great way of experiencing the beauty of this country.
I also love the satisfaction of finding a good second hand clothing bargain or two!

It’s very human scale and nothing extraordinary is demanded of me plus I’m appreciated for the effort I make. It’s very comfortable work and I find the whole experience very rewarding
