Didsbury has the potential to be a thriving sustainable community, having long waiting lists for allotment plots shows that issues of sustainability are already on the minds of many of the residents. There is a large student and young professional population and a wealth of private businesses including re-mastered clothing fashion shops. AFSL aim to reinforce the importance of sustainable living to make practices more widespread in the area.

I work in the fashion industry and that has been my way into sustainability. I have become more and more aware about how wasteful the fashion industry has become and want to work to change this along with making people aware of it. I love making and sewing and have recently come across a movement in London called Craftivism, a great way of combing Craft with activism. I am now with the help of AfSL working to bring this to my area, along with things like swap shop's as a way to get to know my community. |
