Energy Saving and Waste Reduction at Metropolitan University (MMU)

Photo of waste survey at MMUEmerge and AfSL volunteers work together to carry out a mini-waste survey for MMU offices, Halls, classrooms and canteen at All-Saints. They separate and weigh rubbish to discover what proportion of waste is actually recyclable.

Photo of waste weighing at MMUAfSL and Emerge are working together to help develop MMU staff and student awareness around energy saving and waste reduction. The first stage of their project involved a survey of several waste sites around the campus and an energy survey and poster campaign in MMU’s Hulme Halls of Residence. The results will be presented to University staff and house services at a workshop and presentation jointly coordinated by MMU Energy Officer Andy Gillies and AfSL’s Josh Steiner.

AfSL and Emerge were supported by 14 volunteers throughout the day and the campaign is to be continued across other MMU halls of residence by other interested student volunteers. People & Planet at University have expressed an interest in carrying out the same survey in their own Halls and campus.  For more info contact [email protected]
