Reduce, Reuse, Revamp, Recycle is the mantra of Chorlton-based Rubbish Revamped’s recycled craft workshops.
The workshops invite people to think a bit differently about the materials around us whilst also having a relaxing and inspiring time crafting. Newly set up this year, Rubbish revamped have hosted twenty different workshops ranging from turning junkmail into jewellery to immortalising favourite cards into tidy boxes and wall hangings, not forgetting flowers made from bottles of pop and 101 uses for those buttons rolling around forlornly in your sewing box. Big favourites have been the zany sock monsters – what to do with all those odd socks and gloves – and monkeys made from old jumpers (you know that one you won’t ever where again but can’t get rid of?).
Rubbish Revamped in the Garden was an exciting new development this summer inspiring people to use rubbish functionally and ornamentally in the garden. A participant sent this message “Rubbish Revamped in the Garden combined two of my passions - gardening and reducing waste. Your workshop showed me new ways of doing both creatively. I loved the inside-outside working area , the ambience and getting stuck into interesting projects. It struck me that I don't have much space in my daily life routine to use my creative side. These workshops are brilliant for that. I will definitely recommend them to friends”.Rubbish Revamped makes everyone welcome, from experienced craftsters to complete novices who describe themselves as inartistic or even cack-handed. The only requirement is an interest in being creative with your rubbish! Most people like to gather their own rubbish to revamp but we always have plenty to share. We’re always keen to hear from people about what rubbish you think should be revamped – and any ideas for doing so. If it’s a good one, we might give you a free workshop place!
An exciting new programme is being scheduled for the Autumn and will be available on the website at www.rubbishrevamped.org.ukThe mailing list is open to all by emailing us at rubbishrevamped@googlemail.com
