Saturday 27th March!!! Help out at The Chorlton BiG Green Festival!!!
Chorlton's Big Green Festival 2009 was a huge success with local bands, environmental information, local and organic food and lots of things to see and do.  We want to make next year’s event even more fun and engage people in the community about environmental issues. We are looking for volunteers to help out on the day.  There are all sorts of fun ways to get involved!!  Email [email protected]  with your contact information to put your name down to help out.

Local Project Managers
Residents of Gorsehill, Gorton, Bradford, Old Moat only right now
Being a Local Project Manager is a great opportunity to design your own fun and unique local project that will help your community to become more environmentally aware. This opportunity would best suit a person with around 6 hours per week to commit to their project for a period of 6 months. If you are an enthusiastic, self-motivated person in want of guidance and some team spirit, sign up with Action for Sustainable Living today!

Schools Volunteers
A Few Small Steps Project (AFSS) provides workshops and resources around sustainability to schools in and around .  We need enthusiastic and committed people who:
Enjoy working with children and young people 
Want experience in the field of environmental education
Are able to volunteer 4-6 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months

Attention:  We will be having informal relaxed interviews to find the volunteers that are best suited to this role.  Apply by 12 noon on Thursday 1st April.  Interviews will be held on Thursday 8th April.

Moss Side Green Group – Action Group Members
Are you someone that cares about Moss Side? The Moss Side Green Group is a new residents' action group in Moss Side. The purpose of the action group is come up with innovative solutions to local social and environmental problems, that will turn into community projects for you and your community to take part in. Freestyle Fashion Swap Shop (Sharston) – Project Volunteers
Do you fancy getting involved with the planning and organising of a highly successful event?  Like the idea of encouraging people to swap and not shop? Swap Shop coordinators in Sharston are looking for regular volunteers to help them run and promote their Swap Shops.

Growing Project in Whalley Range / Fallowfield
We are looking for experienced and non-experienced volunteers to help in the early stages of this exciting gardening project! We will be growing veggies in the grounds of Regenesis Squared, an interfaith community hub on the border of Fallowfield and Whalley Range.  We will have vegetables, flowers, bushes, living walls and we will encourage wildlife to visit our nice garden! We are now working on the plot layout design, doing the initial digging and starting seedlings. If you are willing to give a helping hand and are interested in growing your own food and working with nature, contact us!

Volunteers for GROW IN SALE: Grow your own & conserve Nature
We are looking for experienced and non-experienced volunteers to help in the early stages of this exciting gardening project! We will help residents of the Syrian House, who are people with mental health problems, to green their garden. We will have vegetables, flowers, bushes, living walls and we will encourage wildlife to visit our nice garden!

Gardening Volunteers 
Set up by volunteers for Action for Sustainable Living, GROWTH: Whalley Range Grow Your Own, consists of a group of volunteers who have got together to utilise some unused green space in the area, with the idea of growing their own herbs and vegetables.  We hope to run various workshop sessions for volunteers giving everyone the opportunity to learn the basics of vegetable growing – we’re all learning, so don’t worry, experience is not essential!!!

Energy Academy – Advocate Volunteers & a Volunteer Mentor
The Energy Academy is a really great opportunity to get involved with a fun and unique local project that will help your community to save energy and become more environmentally aware. We have lots of exciting voluntary opportunities to suit all. Our next event is Green Drinks, from 6.30pm at the Market Tavern in Altrincham, a fun sharing event. 

Volunteer Polar Bear Wanted
Do you like dressing up? We regularly have events featuring our mascot, Snowy the Polar Bear. If you’d like to volunteer in a fun and informal way by wearing the Snowy costume at our rallies please step forward with your best polar bear impression. This is a good opportunity to get to know Action for Sustainable Living’s volunteer team and to gain a better understanding of the organisation.

Internship Opportunity: Schools Programme Development
Action for Sustainable Living  is looking for 2 self-motivated individuals to work as Project Development Intern and help roll-out our schools programme, A Few Small Steps (AFSS), around Greater .   Want to get involved in an organisation that's really making a difference? Want to help move the Sustainability debate on from talk to action? If you want a challenge, look no further..!  This role will help AFSS to expand on our existing work by promoting our service through local networks, building relationship with individual schools, and coordinating delivery and monitoring in conjunction with other AFSS staff members. The programme helps to develop a 'whole school' approach to sustainability on campus, within the curriculum and across the school community by  delivering sessions with staff and students on  food, energy and waste  through classroom & after-school activities, work with student councils,  school staff and community volunteers. Attention: End date for application is 12 noon on Thursday 1st April.  Interviews will take place on Monday 12th April.

Translators
We would like to widen participation in our community events and projects by advertising in a number of languages.  We are looking for people with fluency in: Arabic, Cantonese, Polish, Punjabi, Mandarin, Romanian or Urdu.  Your role will be to help our teams of volunteers to appeal to a greater audience by translating posters and by attending events as a guide for non English speakers.

Social Media Volunteers
We're looking for a volunteer to look after our Facebook page. As a Facebook volunteer you would spend ten minutes every few days checking over the pages to make sure they’re okey dokey and up to date. If you’re not a member already join us at www.facebook.com/action.for.sustainable.living ! A great opportunity to get more people involved in sustainable living and get some IT know-how! We need your energy and eye for detail to lead on keeping the page up to date. We’d love to engage with a larger audience and connect with other worthy local charities through Facebook. Training is provided for a confidence boost.

Freebies Volunteers
It’s brilliant that swathes more people are getting stuck into simple steps like using energy saving light bulbs, but I bet you could think of other gadgets and gizmos to help them along the way?! The Freebies Volunteer actively seeks out new links with organisations to both promote them and pass on their promotional items at AfSL events. You will have the gift of the gab and be confident to talk to people on the telephone. Training is provided, so don’t worry if you’re unsure at first.

Volunteer to Design Posters
Our local events need a visual presence. We’re looking for artists, illustrators and graphic designers who can show off their talents by making slick promotional posters, flyers and web-artwork in line with our branding, but with a local twist. We’re very interested in being greener when it comes to printing and hope to develop future artwork to be more environmentally friendly.

Graphic Design Volunteer to Help Make a Website
We are looking for a graphic designer to join a team to help create a community skill share website in Urmston.  We would like the volunteer to have some knowledge of designing for website use.  We would like a volunteer who understands W3C standards and WAI web accessibility guidelines.  The project is an exciting one, with lots of scope for innovative ideas.  If you feel you have the enthusiasm and skills then please sign up.

IT Volunteers
Join our diverse team of IT volunteers to provide support to the charity in its day to day running, development and one off projects.  We are always looking for talented IT professionals – if this is your area of interest we welcome you to join a small friendly team of volunteers skilled in Drupal, Microsoft, Linux, Pearl and much more.  Monthly volunteering evenings with a like-minded eco crowd, curry is usually ordered in.

The Big Blog Challenge
Ever blogged before? It’s kind of like writing a diary, only one that everyone can see. We’d like to challenge you to take the AfSL Big Blog Challenge. Can you go without plastic bags for a month? Can you leave the car at home for a week? Can you start recycling, or recycle more? We’d like to hear from you. All you have to do is write a short daily blog about your Big Blog Challenge adventure. The blog will be published on our website and on Facebook to encourage more people to take action for sustainable living.
