Withington is a quite a diverse suburb of Manchester. It has lots of students due to its closeness to Fallowfield and its good transport links with the University but also many families and individuals from many cultural backgrounds. There are some stong community groups, such as the Withington Civic Society, with whom local LPMs are in contact and hope to work together on an action group or project in the near future. There are already collaborations going on with the nearby student halls in Fallowfield with an eco-day event planned there for February. There will be more work done to try and help students become more sustainable, but also more involved with the local community, and thus hopefully improve a currently tense relationship. Many residents in Withington feel the sense of community is diminishing, and others feel there is not enough being done by the residents and local council for the environment, so its really important for AfSL to be working here.

Hello! I am starting as a Local Project Manager in Withington and my main project is going to be to create a green register for local landlords to try and influence landlords to make the properties they rent out more eco friendly and sustainable for their residents, as well provide a quick reference point for local residents to turn to help chose a property that is going to ease their conscience and hopefully help their pockets too! I am also hoping to be involved in what other LPMs in this area organise - watch this space! |
