Withington is a quite a diverse suburb of Manchester. It has lots of students due to its closeness to Fallowfield and its good transport links with the University but also many families and individuals from many cultural backgrounds. There are some stong community groups, such as the Withington Civic Society, with whom local LPMs are in contact and hope to work together on an action group or project in the near future. There are already collaborations going on with the nearby student halls in Fallowfield with an eco-day event planned there for February. There will be more work done to try and help students become more sustainable, but also more involved with the local community, and thus hopefully improve a currently tense relationship. Many residents in Withington feel the sense of community is diminishing, and others feel there is not enough being done by the residents and local council for the environment, so its really important for AfSL to be working here.

To start we are going to be making mini protest banners about climate change, sustainability etc to be put up around Didsbury and the rest of Manchester. As the group develops there will also be specific projects aimed at certain issues which can include talks from artists, activ… [more about this project] |
